The campaign has been run after police raids on the home of a News Corporation journalist as well as the Sydney headquarters of of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC. Police were searching for leaked government documents that formed the basis of news reports seen as embarrassing to the government. The media organisations involved in the protest said the June raids had been conducted over articles which had relied on leaks from whistleblowers. One detailed allegations of war crimes, while the other reported an alleged attempt by a government agency to spy on Australian citizens. A former army lawyer has been charged over the leaks and on Sunday, the Australian government confirmed it was possible that three journalists may also face prosecution in the wake of the raids.
